Bradley Peloquin came to Portland Meadows five years ago as a spectator to watch his older brother and his Gig Harbor WA teammates win the Nike Cross Nationals title.

“It was amazing,” said Peloquin, who was a seventh grader. “You don’t realize how big it is until afterward. It excited me. At that point I was getting close to going to high school.”

On Saturday at Nike Portland XC, Peloquin ran 15:06.5 to win the Jim Danner Championship race and join his brother, Tristan, on an elite list of winners. Tristan Peloquin, now at the University of Portland, won the race in 2014.

“I am extremely proud,” Tristan Peloquin said. “Watching him made me excited about running this fall.”

There are five boys in the Peloquin family, plus Tristan’s twin sister Brenna, who runs for Boise State.

“My mom was a gymnast in college and later ran 2:48 in the marathon, and my dad ran for Portland and was a WCC champion,” Tristan said.

Running is a family passion and speed runs through the entire line.

Peloquin said he was taking it easy in the early part of the race, settling in at about eighth, and then picking off runners one by one until the end.

Zane Fodge of McMinnville OR was second with his strongest race of the year, running 15:20.8.

Tahoma WA won the team title with 116 points, followed by Camas WA with 126.

The girls race was dominated by US#4 Summit OR, which put all five scorers in the top 15 and scored 38 points for the victory.

Ella Borsheim, a freshman from Bellarmine Prep WA, made a sparkling big-meet debut with a victory in 17:32.
